• The course is designed for individuals currently working for municipal, regional district and other local governments in British Columbia. The course content provides an overview of local government administration, the role of local government, the role of Council and staff and its interactions with other agencies and the public.

  • This course examines the services that local government bodies provide to their citizens. Topics include services provided to the community - protective, water and sewer, public works, recreation and cultural, parks and community planning and development services. Internal services provided to the corporation - Clerks Department, Human Resources, Information Systems, Finance and Facility Maintenance will also be discussed. In addition we will look at alternative service methods.

  • This course introduces students to local budgeting, including assessment, taxation collection, the development of local budgets, provincial and federal government transfers and long-term financial planning.

  • In this course, students are introduced to the legal principles relating to municipal government. The focus is on the status, functions, legal powers and constraints of municipal law. Students are introduced to the principles of administrative law., the process by which legislation is created, and the powers and duties of administrative agencies.
