This course prepares students with foundational knowledge about tourism, sustainable tourism, and international aspects of the industry. Topics include an overview of sustainable tourism (travel, target market, lodging, community-based initiatives etc.), international variations in the expression of sustainable tourism, community development, and social responsibility. Case studies will be used to illustrate current issues in sustainable tourism. This course may be delivered in a variety of ways: face-to-face classroom format, distance/online delivery, or a hybrid/blended approach.
- This course is designed to help students in the International Sustainable Tourism program reflect on their learning and overseas experience in sustainable tourism, and to demonstrate their achievement in a presentation. Students will develop a project plan, gather information for the project while overseas, conduct a literature search, and present the project to others at the home institution. A short (3 - 4 minute) video will also document the learning.
